Why is Southwest my favorite airline?

First and foremost, companion pass, companion pass, COMPANION PASS!!!

Other airlines may offer a companion pass for a short period of time or one and two flights but southwest is the only airline that you can have a companion fly free with you on every flight for almost TWO years!!!! There’s a bit of strategy and timing involved to do this right but it’s worth it (and I can help!) I have had the companion pass since January 2024 and have already had a companion fly with me 10 times for free!! That blows my mind!! I haven’t added up how much I have saved with the companion pass but it (for sure) is thousands of dollars. I will have the companion pass until the end of 2025 so I still have another year of free companion travel. I plan to have the companion pass for as long as it exists and its definately possible to do so!

My husband also has the companion pass so that, as a family of four, we travel for at least 50% off everywhere southwest flies.

Southwest flies a lot of places…Hawaii, Costa Rica, Mexico etc. Those are definity where you get the most value from these free flights.

To get a companion pass, you have to have 135,000 miles. Once you hit those miles, you can use those miles to book travel and 135,000 miles can get you a lot of places. Southwest generally has pretty low award travel rates. Plus when you only have to book two tickets for a family of 4, it goes even further!

Cancellation Policy

Southwest has the BEST cancellation policy I’ve ever seen. You can cancel up to 10 minutes before your flight with NO penalties.

Price Changes

You can modify your flight for free anytime. I often rebook the same flight when the points go down. I have done this SO many times. When I book my flight, I’m not too worried about getting the “best” price because I know I can rebook it anytime for free if the price goes down. PR0 TIP- Set a google alert to notify you if the price goes down so you don’t have to worry about remembering to check.

Free Bags

While I try to never check a bag, free bags is a huge perk for a lot of people.

Seat Policy

While Southwest will be moving to assigned seats, as of now, there are no charges to pick a seat. We still do not know what their seat policy will be so we will have to wait to see

All these reasons make Southwest Airlines a no brainer, especially when traveling with family.
