Southwest Changes Announced!!
Southwest announced some changes today. Some of the big takeaways:
Assigned Seating with redesigned cabins that offer seats with extra leg room started in 2026
Bags will continue to fly free
Their 1st international partnership with Iceland Airlines
Some people love the open seating concept and others don’t. I personally rather know where I am sitting before I board the flight, there’s nothing worse for me than worrying about how my family is going to sit by each other if we have a bad boarding position. So I’ll be relieved when this change happens. The assigned seating changes will begin in 2026.
I don’t check bags typically, but I know that is a big perk of flying Southwest so I’m glad that is staying
The most exciting part of this announcement is the partnership with Iceland Air. This means customers will be allowed to book Southwest flights through Iceland Air. While we will need to wait to get more specifics, if Iceland is on your bucket list, you may want to keep an eye on this. Southwest also mentioned they expect to add at least one other international partner 2025 with more following.
