But this will ruin my credit…and other misconceptions

When you first hear the words credit cards, what comes to mind? I’m guessing whatever it is, it is something negative. People like Dave Ramsey have instilled in us that credit cards are evil. I’m here to tell you that’s B.S.

I’ve opened A LOT of credit cards in the last couple years and my credit score has stayed around 820. Believe it or not, my credit score has actually gone up since I started this hobby.

I’m guessing it’s because the banks have offered me a lot of credit and I pay my credit card payment on time and in full every month. I never carry a balance and I ONLY charge my day-to-day expenses that I know I can pay off every month. Everything I used to use my ATM card for I now put on a credit card.

So what that means is: I have NO debt. I think a common misconception is that someone will go into debt when you open numerous credit cards in a year. Also, not true. Think about how much you spend on groceries, gas, utilities, restaurants, extracurricular activities for kids…etc. That adds up and I can easily hit a welcome offer with my normal spend.

A welcome offer that comes to mind on a great beginner card is to spend $4,000 in 3 months and receive 60,000 points. That’s $1,333 a month, which is pretty easily attainable on day to day expenses. That 60,000 points can be used for a free flight or 2-3 nights in a luxury hotel. All this for just putting your normal expenses on a credit card instead of a ATM card!
