A Review of the Royal Palms Resort and Spa Phoenix, AZ

We Just came back from a 3 day weekend in Phoenix. We were lucky to get out of Colorado Friday night before the temperature’s started dipping below zero.

The Royal Palms is a Category 6 Hyatt property. It ranges between 21,000-29,000 points per night depending on the time of year.

I used a suite upgrade award to stay in a Junior Suite. My sister, daughter and I were all staying in the same room so we needed a bit more space.

King Bed Junior Suite

Room: 5/10. I believe we were in an “older building” but the room we had seemed dated. When you enter the room, she see a living room with a sofa sleeper (which was more comfortable than most) with a door to enter the bathroom. In the bathroom there was a separate room for toilet, a single vanity and a shower with clear glass. On the other side of the bathroom was the bedroom with a king bed. So you would need to go through the bathroom to get to the bedroom. And with the clear glass on the shower, moving around the room while someone was in the shoer was difficult. I will say this resort is more catered to adults/couples so this probably wasn’t an issue for most people

Nestled in Camelback Mountain

Location 11/10. The location is beautiful, It is directly below Camelback Mountain, views of the mountain can be seen in every location of the hotel grounds. There were breathtaking views around every corner.

Driveway up to the hotel

Grounds 11/10

This hotel was once a 1920’s Spanish Colonial winter home. The history and buildings were preserved so well with much of the original pieces still there. When you check in, you receive a timeline of the hotels existence including remodels and owner changes and a “scavenger hunt” like guide that shows you what pieces of the hotel are original and where to find them. The grounds of this hotel are absolutely the best part. There are multiple outdoor spaces throughout the grounds where you can relax by an outdoor fire. There is a library open 24/7 where you can read vintage books. An area where you can sit by a fountain and watch hummingbirds…the list goes on. The grounds offer so many places for rest and relaxation.

Pool 3/10

Nothing fancy about this pool. Just one pool in the middle of the resort. It claims to be heated but it did not feel warm to us. lol

Restaurants I’m not sure I can actively rate the restaurants I we only had breakfast and dessert at them. They appear to be great restaurants but we enjoy the “less fancy” food off site.

Bottom Line: Beautiful resort for a relaxing vacation. I see this as a couples resort, there were only one or two other children there while we were there. We probably wont be staying there again because we typically travel with kids but if you are looking for a relaxing couples getaway, you may want to check this out!
