The secret to getting a FREE hotel upgrade

There’s THREE things you need to know when it comes to free upgrades.

  1. ASK!!! It can feel intimidating or embarrassing to ask but if your don’t ask your chances our 0…About a week or so before I check in, I email the hotel. I include a few things in this email:

    The dates we are coming,

If we are celebrating something special (celebrating is the KEY word) your stay doesn’t have to be on a birthday or anniversary to be celebrating it.

If we’ve been to the hotel previously, I add what we liked about the hotel last time we stayed and our excitement about returning

If this is our first time visiting the hotel, I add what we are excited about and maybe some positive things about the hotel

If you have any status with the hotel. For example if you have globalist status with Hyatt

  2. Know WHO to ask

I always find it better to find an email for a manager at the hotel and send the manager an email instead of the general hotel email. If you can’t find that, you can always email the generic email as well. If you are a globalist, you have a concierge you can email prior as well. When I stayed in Costa Rica, I received an email from the hotel prior to our arrival and my concierge so I replied to both of those and was upgraded to a plunge pool suite!! So well worth the time! lol

  3. Ask again at check in. I know that can feel awkward but it’s worth a shot. I also sometimes check the app before arrival and see what is available before asking. I NEVER expect an upgrade and I also am very kind and nice about it.

BOTTOM LINE: There are hotel upgrade email templates floating around on the internet but I do not use those. I feel like if lots of people are using the same template, the hotel may catch on to this and it can not feel as authentic.
